Mr. David Chris Long

David Chris Long, 56, passed away on August 8, 2026, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Born August 30, 1969, in Kennett, Missouri, Chris grew up in the community he called home and developed a love for football early in life, playing the sport during his high school years. That love stayed with him throughout his life. He enjoyed watching sports on television, especially football, and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. Chris spent much of his working life as a roofer with Quality Roofing in Senath, Missouri. He valued the people in his life and the friendships he made along the way. Chris loved to laugh and especially enjoyed making others laugh. He was fortunate to have several close friendships that stood the test of time, and those friendships meant a great deal to him. Family held a special place in Chris’s heart, particularly his mother. No matter what the day brought, he made it a point to call her twice a day just to check on her, see how she was doing, and make sure she didn’t need anything. It was a simple routine that spoke volumes about the love he had for his mama. Chris was a Christian man who loved God and drew strength from his faith. He enjoyed visiting Greater Vision Church and also had a special connection with Jumpstart Ministries in Hoxie. Chris was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Virgil Ralph Long and Dorothy May Long; and one sister, Michelle Harrison. He is survived by his son, Jacob Long of Memphis, Tennessee; his mother, Sheila Mitchell of Kennett, Missouri; his best friend and soulmate of more than 13 years, Laura Mansfield of Paragould, Arkansas; two brothers, Michael Waynick of Kennett, Missouri, and Mark McCain of Duttle, Oklahoma; and his sister, Shae Childress and husband, O, of Ohio. Chris also leaves behind special friends whose friendship meant more to him than words could adequately express: Larry Rios of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Tyrone Craig of Memphis, Tennessee; and Danny Merritt of Clarkson, Missouri. Memorial service information is incomplete at this time and will be updated once arrangements have been finalized.
