Mrs. Melba Lou McCallie

Melba Lou McCallie, 79, entered fully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, on October 1, 2024 at the Manila Nursing Center. She was next to the youngest of 10 children born to Charlie and Agnes Nelson. She was an amazing person inside and out. Meba touched and inspired so many lives with her kindness. She possessed a sharp wit, a keen sense of humor and a sparkle in her eye when she laughed. She was feisty yet loving and forgiving. Melba was blessed with the perfect balance of patience, kindness, humility, unconditional love and strength of character needed to manage her home and overcome the trials and tribulations life threw her way. She never complained. In our home there was no time for TV everyone had chores. The family dinner table was always full of life and laughter. Melba was widely known as an extraordinary cook. She made the best homemade bread, cat head biscuits and flap jacks. Her love was boundless and her faith unwavering. Even unto her last days with us, she kept us all in line. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Edward McCallie; her son Danny McCallie; grandchild Keisha McCallie; her parents Charlie and Agnes Nelson; siblings Earnestine Lane, Wilbur Nelson, Leon Nelson, Roy Nelson, Alvie Hall, Berthie White and Helen Nelson. Melba leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her family, including her sons, Ricky (Doloris) McCallie Sr, Eddie (Chassity) McCallie and Robert McCallie Sr all of Manila; grandchildren Ricky McCallie Jr, Travis McCallie, Gage McCallie and Robert McCallie Jr all of Manila, Stephanie Polston of Keiser and Halie (Steven) Smith of Jonesboro; great grandchildren Shepherd Smith and Erin McCallie; her brother Huss (Mary) Nelson of Byron, Michigan. She also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends. She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved her. There will be a celebration of Melba’s life at Little River Missionary Baptist Church in Lost Cane on Monday October 7th at 11 am with Brother Jeff Knowlton officiating.
