Mr. Michael Eugene Nail

Michael Eugene Nail, 50, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 5, 2026. He was born July 9, 1976, in Berrien Springs, Michigan, the oldest of five children born to John and Tilda (Cox) Nail. Throughout his life, Mikey worked primarily as a farm hand, including time spent working for Whitley Farms. He also earned his CDL and briefly gave truck driving a try, but quickly decided life on the road wasn’t for him. Those who knew Mikey knew there was rarely a dull moment when he was around. He had a playful spirit, an adventurous streak, and an innocence that sometimes made him a little too easy to convince. He tended to see the good in people and trusted with an open heart, even when others didn’t always deserve it. But that was simply part of who Mikey was—tenderhearted, full of personality, and able to make people laugh without even trying. Growing up, Mikey was convinced he was destined to become a rock star. He dreamed of playing guitar and being in a band, although his family lovingly joked that he couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket. What he may have lacked in musical talent, he certainly made up for in personality. Mikey was often the entertainment wherever he went. Mikey also loved talking on the CB radio. He had a full home-base setup with an antenna and was determined to see just how far he could reach. His goal was California, and by all accounts, he either made contact or came awfully close. He could spend hours talking over the airwaves, keeping the old-school CB tradition alive. His family has no shortage of stories from Mikey’s younger years. He was always doing something that left everyone laughing or shaking their heads. Behind Mikey’s humor was also a sensitive soul who struggled at times to see his own worth. He battled depression from a young age, and health problems and a serious back injury later left him dealing with chronic pain. Life became even more difficult following the death of his wife, Maressa. During a time when Mikey knew he was not capable of providing their four daughters with the stability and care they needed, he made the painful decision to allow their grandmother to adopt them. As difficult as that decision was, Mikey knew his girls deserved to be safe, loved and cared for. Losing his wife and no longer having his daughters with him brought a tremendous amount of heartache into his life. Mikey faced struggles and made his share of mistakes, but those struggles were never the entirety of who he was. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was funny, tenderhearted, trusting and unforgettable. For all the times Mikey may have struggled to recognize his own value, those who loved him will remember the kind heart beneath it all and the laughter and stories he left behind. Mikey was preceded in death by his wife, Maressa Nail. He leaves behind his parents, John and Tilda Nail of Black Oak, Arkansas; his four daughters, Bethany Harris, Gracie Nail, Emily Nail and Madelyn Nail; his granddaughter, Oaklynn; and four siblings, John Nail and wife Linda of Monette, Arkansas, Shawn Dortch of Paragould, Arkansas, William Nail and wife Kimberly of Lonoke, Arkansas, and Thomas Nail and wife Jody of Black Oak, Arkansas. A memorial service celebrating Mikey’s life will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026, from noon until 4:00 p.m. at the Family Life Center in Black Oak, Arkansas.
