Mr. Norman Glenn Gossett

Norman Glenn Gossett, 85, went to meet Jesus on September 7, 2026. Norm was raised in the Detroit, Michigan area, the fourth of eight children born to Millage and Mildred (Campbell) Gossett. As a young man, ice hockey was one of his favorite pastimes, and he also loved ice-skating and later rollerblading. He kept his old skates through the years, a reminder of something he had enjoyed so much in his younger days. His father was a Baptist preacher, and church and faith were an important part of Norm’s upbringing. As soon as he was eligible, Norm enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country. Norm spent much of his working life in HVAC and later worked in maintenance for Darling in Paragould for more than 20 years. It was there that he met his wife, Jeanie Zosso Gossett. Norm and Jeanie shared more than 24 years together, building a life filled with family, laughter, and countless memories. The outdoors was where Norm loved to be. He enjoyed bass fishing, hiking, camping, and just about anything that allowed him to spend time outside. Norm was an exceptionally talented craftsman with an eye for detail and the ability to turn his ideas into something lasting. His home is filled with pieces made by his own hands, including the dining table and its sturdy chairs, a curio cabinet, and many other creations. At one time, he even made pieces to sell. Whatever Norm built was made with patience, skill, and pride—and it was made to last. That same care could be seen in the way he treated the people he loved. When Norm received his very first paycheck as a young man, the first thing he did was buy his mother a picture he knew she wanted for her wall. Decades later, that very picture hangs in Norm and Jeanie’s home—a treasured reminder of his mother and of the thoughtful young man who wanted to do something special for her. If you didn’t know Norm well, his quiet expression might have made you think he was always serious. Those who knew him knew better. Norm was usually taking everything in, and there wasn’t much that escaped his attention. Behind that straight face was a wonderfully dry sense of humor and an ornery streak. He loved joking, pulling pranks, and getting people going, often without ever cracking a smile himself. Even visitors entering his home are greeted by a preserved rattlesnake displayed near the doorway—a fitting example of the humor that kept his family and friends on their toes and laughing. Above all, Norm was a good man, a devoted husband and father, and a great provider who loved his family deeply. He had a way of making people feel welcome, and his thoughtful heart, playful spirit, and unmistakable sense of humor will be remembered by those who knew him best. His faith remained an important part of his life. Over the years, Norm taught Sunday school and even served as a song leader—despite, as his family lovingly remembers, not being able to carry much of a tune. Perhaps one of the greatest testimonies to his faith is the Bible he leaves behind. Its pages are tattered and worn because it was not simply kept on a shelf; it was opened, read, studied, and used. When his health allowed, Norm and Jeanie attended Cowboy Church, which he truly enjoyed. Norm will be remembered for his faith, his devotion to family, his skilled hands, his thoughtful heart, his love of the outdoors, and that dry sense of humor that could catch you when you least expected it. Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Millage and Mildred (Campbell) Gossett; and four siblings, Mona Gossett, Jerry Gossett, Jane Gossett, and David Gossett. He leaves behind his wife, Jeanie Zosso Gossett of Pocahontas, Arkansas; four children, Christie Walker and husband Mike of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Amy Pennington and husband Peanut of Palestine, Arkansas; Andy Gossett and wife Ashley of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas; and Shannon Sillars and husband Mardy of Vancouver, Washington. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Trevor Reagan of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Madison Walker of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Emma Johnson and husband Jonathan of Forrest City, Arkansas; Hilary Trickey of Forrest City, Arkansas; Madison Reagan of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Autumn Pennington of Forrest City, Arkansas; and Connor Gossett and Avery Gossett, both of Jonesboro, Arkansas; 11 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Judy Messer and husband Dwight of Kentucky; Susan Krause of Piggott, Arkansas; and Richard Gossett and wife Debbie of Paragould, Arkansas; along with many nieces, nephews, former coworkers, lifelong friends, and others who were fortunate enough to know him.
