Mr. Harvey Dee Sides
October 5, 1940 - March 17, 2022
Harvey Dee Sides went to the great golf course in the sky. He passed away March 17, 2022 at the age of 81 at his home with family in attendance. He was born on Oct 5, 1940 in Marysville, Kansas the son of Harvey O and Connie Sides. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1958 and joined the Navy with 3 of his classmates. After training he was transferred to the Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tennessee where he met and married his wife of over 60 years Betty Walker. Upon discharge from the Navy they moved to Holton, Kansas to join National Marketing Inc to manage their truck stop and later joined them in Topeka for the next 30 years where he retired as president. Harvey was a little league baseball coach and a long time member and former president of the Holton Country Club. He also served on the board of directors of the Kansas Oil Marketers Association. They retired to Arkansas in 1999 and he later worked part time for Sears and helped his brother in law in the scrap business. Harvey had a remarkable life and attitude. He was known for his quick wit and ever present sense of humor. Harvey was a family man dedicated to providing for his family and leading by example, living the principled, faithful life of a gentleman. He adored his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an advocate of two vacations a year with the entire family. Now all the photographs, the long car rides with Frank Sinatra music turned up loud and his love of Rodney Dangerfield jokes will be cherished memories for all. “How do you know the toothbrush was invented in Arkansas? Because if it was invented anywhere else it would be the teethbrush” He was one of kind and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey O and Connie (Thompson) Sides, one brother Gary Sides and brother in law Leroy Schroller. Harvey is survived by his wife Betty Walker Sides of Newport, Arkansas; four sons Randall Sides and Steve Sides both of Newport, Arkansas, Troy (Barbara) Sides and Corey (Robin) Sides both of Holton, Kansas; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his sister Judy Schroller of Marysville, Kansas; along with a host of life long friends and coworkers. The Celebration of Harvey’s Life will be held May 7th from 5-7 PM at the Holton Country Club in Holton Kansas on the bottom floor of the Club House. In honoring Harvey’s wishes he will be cremated and his ashes spread at an undisclosed location in North America over the next few years.
