Ms. Iva Jean Steen

On Thursday, March 31, 2022, Iva Jean Steen, loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed away at the age of 89 at the Manila Nursing Center. Born on February 9, 1933 in Manila, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late John and Myrtle Hall. Throughout her life, Iva Jean was a business woman that worked hard to support her family. Three of her ventures included owning and operating Blackwater Grocery Store, the Lions Station and Joe Bill’s Pool Hall. She was a kind and generous woman whose passion for life showed up in all that she did. To Iva Jean, no one was a stranger. She knew everybody and was all in all the time, for good food and good company. Iva Jean loved to meet new people and also had an incredible memory and in her many stories could recall countless facts that most of us had forgotten. She was preceded in death by her first husband Acie Joe Effinger and second husband James W Steen; her parents John and Myrtle (Edwards) Hall; two brothers Don Hall and William Hall; and one sister Beatrice Hill. Iva Jean leaves behind her son Ronnie (Vickie) Effinger of Manila, Arkansas; four grandchildren Kimberly Jo Palmer of Pocahontas, Arkansas, Steven (April) Massey, Joseph (Brandi) Massey and Thomas Massey all of Manila, Arkansas; 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; a very special little friend Madeline Ford along with a host of life long friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Thursday April 7, 2022 at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ located at 1030 Costner Road in Manila.
