Mr. Danny Joe Burnette

Danny Joe Burnette, a native of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, passed away on November 28, 2021. He was born October 17, 1955, to James Hershel Burnette and Jewel Burnette. Danny is preceded in death by his father, James Hershel, his brothers, Jim Burnette and Tim Burnette, his sister, Lynn Mauldin, his brother-in-law, James Mauldin, and his nephew, Justin Mauldin. He is survived by his wife, Cara “Baby Girl” Burnette, sister, Merida “Sam” Bondurant, brother-in-law, Bryant Bondurant, and sister-in-law, Cheri Burnette. His daughters, Meagan Tesene (and significant other, Justin Anderson), Mallory Looney (and husband, Hunter Looney), and Bayley Poindexter; his sons, Justin French and Colten Tesene (and fiancée, Alexis Harris). Best PeePaw award comes from his grandchildren, MaKenlie Hollaway, Eric Hollaway, Camden Tesene, Aiden Tesene, Clay Looney, Alayna Looney, Luke Coleman, and Blake Hollaway; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Danny enjoyed the simplest of pleasures in life - creating wonderful memories with his grandchildren, collecting vintage automobile banks, reading James Lee Burke (his favorite author), attending concerts (proudly over 100), teaching his grandchildren to whistle, loving and spending time with his family. He had a passion for history, culture, and travel, and he never missed reading the daily paper. Of all the things Danny did in his life, marrying his best friend, Cara, and raising their 5 kids, was his absolute favorite. Dad, “Danny”, meant so much to his children, that they would like to share with you some words from each of their personal obituaries: Mallory shared one her fondest memories with her father. “We would be riding in his Bronco 2, jamming to “Bad to the Bone,” both of us singing, ‘On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered ‘round, and they gazed in wide wonder, at the joy they had found, the head nurse spoke up and she said leave this one alone, she could tell right away, that Mallory was bad to the bone.’” As far back as Meagan, Colten, and Bayley remember, Danny Joe Burnette had been in their lives from the first time he walked into their home at 315 Crabb Lane. One thing is for certain, dating their mother was not going to be easy. “You’re not going to be here long,” were some of the first words Meagan had for him. However, her last words were, “Dad, thank you for staying here with us, for believing in us, but most of all, for loving us. Who knows where we would be had we not been given the chance to feel a father’s unconditional love.” Danny was Bayley’s best “crib-fort” maker, an awesome softball coach, the yummiest brownie baker, and the best addition to all of his children. Bayley shared, “The way he loved our mom made us realize TRUE LOVE does exist. We witnessed it firsthand.” “We, children, Mallory, Meagan, Justin, Bayley, and I (Colten) all have been groomed to know right from wrong and how to not hurt others. Our dad instilled this in us all. Through all of his medical issues, he was still able to care for our family and show us what a father was. I strive daily to make him proud. Thanks to the greatest father anyone could have ever asked for, Danny Joe Burnette.” Justin shared one of his fondest memories of Danny was when he taught him how to ride his moped. It came with lots of crash and burns, but Danny never gave up. “Even though he was not my biological dad, he stepped up to the plate and showed me what a real father could be, and don’t forget, one of the coolest one-legged men I’ve ever known.” Danny had an amazing life, full of zest! He had integrity, loyalty, intelligence, and a complete agape love for his family and friends. Everything you’ve done, Danny, we love you, and we’re extremely grateful to get to call you our father, our dad. The one thing we can rest assured is that you had one heck of a story to share with Jim, Tim, and Lynn when you stepped through those pearly gates!
