Mr. Herbert Harold "Dusty" Rhoades Jr

Herbert Harold “Dusty” Rhoades Jr of Steele, Missouri left us unexpectedly on November 12, 2022 at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville, Texas. He was in Texas celebrating Veterans Day with his brother in arms when God called his name. He was born April 5, 1949 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Herbert Sr and Vernon Lucille Rhoades. He was a 1968 graduate of South Pemiscot High School in Steele, Missouri. After graduation he joined the military. Dusty was a true a patriot in every sense of the word. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. When he came home he began farming the family farm along with rented ground. In 1994 he joined Utley Inc as an owner operator and had a successful career through retirement. Dusty was a loving, kind and generous man who will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his unshakable profound faith in God. He was a jack of all trades, a legendary storyteller, an animal lover, history buff and one heck of a cook. When he learned how to pull up youTube for “how to” recipes, he became an instant chef. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending quality time with family. He was a dedicated, proud father and grandpa that adored his grandchildren. He was so proud of all of them. He was preceded in death by his wife Lisa (Hall) Rhoades; his parents Herbert Sr and Vernon Lucille (Owens) Rhoades; two brother in laws Thomas Hurlburt and Jack Stinnett. He leaves to cherish his memories his son Curtis Rhoades of Baltimore, Maryland; two step daughters Angel Pritchett and Stephanie (Adam) McMellon both of Steele, Missouri; three grandchildren Zack McMellon, Brian “Buck” McMellon and Gunnar Pritchett all of Steele, Missouri; two sisters Sue Stinnett of Blytheville, Arkansas and Debbie Hurlburt of Titusville, Florida; two nephews Shane Still of Gosnell, Arkansas and Jason Hurlburt of Titusville, Florida; his heart broken canine “Black Dog” along with many brother in arms, a host of life long friends and coworkers. Dusty’s presence here will be deeply missed, but he will always be remembered in our hearts. There will be a graveside service provisioned by Powell Funeral Home at Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele, Missouri at 1PM on Thursday November 17, 2022.
