Mrs. Mary Elaine Cooper

Mary Elaine Cooper, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Jonesboro on August 13, 2025. She was born on July 30, 1949, in Risco, Missouri, to the late Sam and Alma (Edwards) Chipman. Mary’s childhood was spent traveling across southeast Missouri with her family, following farm work. In 7th grade, they made their home in the Shugtown area, and she attended school in Dixie. Mary had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She never met a stranger and opened her home and heart to anyone in need—whether a sick friend, a struggling family member, or even an injured animal. She cared for many loved ones through their final days, showing compassion that knew no bounds. She was the best cook the South has ever known, and her springtime flower beds looked like flowing waterfalls of color. Her home was more than four walls—it was a haven. On Wednesday and Sunday nights after church, it came alive with laughter, the smell of fresh coffee and baked goods, and the sound of fellowship. In the mornings, it wasn’t unusual to find teenagers asleep on the living room floor, safe and cared for under her roof. Mary greeted every guest at the door with sweet tea or a slice of cake or pie, and she never let anyone leave hungry. Her love remains in the sunflowers that now lift their faces toward heaven, just as she has. Her home was a place of love, and her memory will forever be our safe place to land. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Millard “Wayne” Cooper; her son Jon Cooper; and her siblings Bruce Chipman, Richard Chipman, Melvin Chipman, Donald Chipman, Larry Chipman, Sandra Brewer, and Gary Chipman. Mary leaves behind her two sons Gary Cooper and Chris Cooper (Wally); her grandchildren Caitlin Roberts (Justin), Lindsey Myers (Tyler), Jon Cooper, and Lexi Cooper; her great-grandchildren Kenley Boling, Aurora Myers, and Leo Myers; her sister Melba Chipman; and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Due to the extreme heat, Mary will be laid to rest at Pinelog Cemetery on Sunday, August 17th at 1:00 PM. At 2:30 PM, we will gather for a Celebration of Life at Sign Tech in Paragould.
